• Your union is one-of-a-kind. Your ketubah should be, too.

  • You appreciate contemporary, timeless, handmade objects as well as tradition.

  • You'd like to work directly with an artist to commission an original work of art to celebrate your momentous event and vows to one another.

At Ketubah Graphia, artist Aliza Boyer handcrafts unique, custom works of art incorporating wedding vows and contemporary designs that borrow from the tradition of the centuries-old Jewish marriage contract—
the ketubah.

Available to all couples—Jewish, non-Jewish, interfaith, same-sex, gender-neutral or non-conforming, secular—and in any language, these works of art become instant heirlooms that live long after your wedding day.

Aliza will create the perfect ketubah for you—a completely personalized, hand-lettered text and testament to your union and future together—inscribed with and upon archival materials meant to last a lifetime, and beyond.

While historically the ketubah was a one-size-fits-all legal document, each Ketubah Graphia ketubah is as unique as your partnership and highlights the words you choose to represent your commitment to each other. With every commission, Aliza works directly with you to make decisions easy and the process meaningful and fun, and to present you with a beautiful work of art you had a part in creating.

Your process can be hands-on—come for a studio visit to see samples and materials in person and discuss ideas—or contact Aliza to learn more and discuss your vision by email, phone, or FaceTime/Skype, or simply place an order here to start the creation of your ketubah.

About Aliza

I feel honored to be working with couples at such a momentous time in their lives and am inspired by each love story that I encounter.

I am an artist and arts educator and have been creating hand-lettered and handmade ketubahs as part of my artistic practice for the past 18 years, alongside painting, drawing, and sculpting.

In 2003, my sister asked me to make a special ketubah for her modern, interfaith wedding. She had never seen a ketubah like the one she had in mind, but was sure I could create it: hand-lettered vows that reflected her aspirations for an egalitarian partnership -- a ketubah rooted in Jewish tradition, but rewritten.

Celebrating life’s milestones with family and friends led to more special requests...and more original works of art. I like to think Ketubah Graphia was born from a need to create meaningful rituals for modern life.

I have worked with couples all over the world and have created a diverse range of ketubahs—ones that include custom texts written by couples themselves, others that incorporate Hindi, Sanskrit, Korean, Russian, Albanian, French, Spanish, Italian, and other languages, written an entire ketubah text on a large piece of sanded and polished driftwood a couple found on the beach, and have collaborated with couples’ friends and family on mixed-media works of art, as well as with esteemed illustrators.

The originality, history, textures, and colors I encounter around my home of Brooklyn, New York are my everyday inspiration; my travels in India, Israel, South Africa, Mexico, Turkey, Portugal (and the places I dream to go next), and visiting Jewish communities in each of these places, expand my vision.

Thank you in advance for making Ketubah Graphia a part of your lifecycle event!
