Orthodox and Conservative

The Orthodox ketubah text is a legal text document historically written for the bride’s protection. According to this text, the groom commits to certain financial obligations that assure his wife is taken care of in case their marriage dissolves. The Orthodox version is written in Aramaic (a Semitic language closely related to Hebrew) with Hebrew script. The English is not a direct translation of the Aramaic.

The traditional Conservative texts are similar to the Orthodox text, written in Aramaic and including the English version. However an addition called the Lieberman Clause has also been introduced by the Conservative movement as a way to further protect women in the case of divorce. More egalitarian Conservative texts are also available in this section.
